授業の概要 | Advanced English conversation B is a discussion based course, and aims to develop students' English proficiency by focusing on communication strategies and critical thinking discussions that will enable them to communicate their opinions, views and ideas. Topics will include personal and social issues for students to practice their communication strategies with. |
---|---|
学修の目的 | The second semester will begin with a proficiency check (conversation) to assess students’ abilities and needs. Students will be given different communication strategies each week, they will practice the strategies together in different discussions until they are comfortable. They will be given alternate styles of the same strategy and have to employ them carefully in discussions (some of which will test their critical thinking). There will be conversation recordings, assessment and self-reflection. |
学修の到達目標 | The goal is for students to: • Learn more than 20 communication strategies to improve length of English conversation, avoid communication breakdowns and be able to discuss and engage with topics where knowledge is limited. • To develop and give strong opinions confidently with precision. • To have high-level discussions that may require critical thinking. |
