連絡事項 | Since the main objective of the course is to facilitate your practice of written English, attendance is compulsory. Missing 3 or more class sessions will result in failure of the course. Your active participation and performance on class-related exercises accounts for a substantial portion of your grade this semester: so get involved, and be vocal! Encourage your classmates to express themselves in group work and make sure everyone has a chance to write, speak and listen. We will adopt an ENGLISH-ONLY POLICY to further these aims: please resists the temptation to use your native language, as tempting as it will be! In addition, this class will operate on a strictly limited use of all electronic devices. Plagiarism, presenting others’ academic work as your own, will result in failure of the assignment or course, and may have further serious consequences on your studies. * 状況により変更される可能性があるので定期的に確認して下さい |
授業の概要 | The paragraph: what it is, how to construct it, and how to employ it. |
---|---|
学修の目的 | Working from the familiar to the unfamiliar, this course will guide students to compose coherent and clear English paragraphs on a range of subjects, and in a variety of forms, suitable for integration into larger writing projects. Students will write, revise and edit their own work, discuss each other’s writing to aid its improvement through peer-review and editing workshops, and reflect on their own progress. |
学修の到達目標 | Students will reflect on the importance, organization, and many rhetorical purposes of the paragraph, and practice planning, drafting, composing, revising and editing paragraphs for a range of rhetorical purposes. They will discover how to weigh crucial aspects including: order of information; coherence and clarity; audience and purpose; sentence length; choice and variety of diction; etc. |
