-Instructor at National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Suzuka College

I aim to (a) help the students improve their reading abilities, (b) focus on reading and understanding through context and NOT through depending on a dictionary, (c) use the topics to engage in thoughtful discussions and debates, and (d) improve students' speed not only in reading, but in speaking.

学修の目的と方法

授業の概要 In this course, students will learn how to improve their reading, listening, speaking and critical thinking skills. We will accomplish this by challenging our cultural perceptions and values then discussing our thoughts and opinions.

We shall study several introspective topics using the textbook Identity. In addition to this textbook I shall provide several essays with related topics.
学修の目的 To communicate well with others, you need to have the confidence to use English to talk more deeply about yourself. It is the aim of this class to make us ask ourselves questions about our values. We will read stories related to intercultural values and then consider our own beliefs. What do we believe? What is important to us? And discuss our opinions in English.
学修の到達目標 By the end of this course, students are expected to
--be able to consider what their beliefs are and to also consider how cultural differences guide their beliefs,
--have improved their reading and discussion skills in English.

成績評価方法と基準 Assignments: 100%
Each class except for the first class will have an assignment. Your final grade will be based upon your assignment. To say this simply, each assignment will count as 1/14 of your final grade.
