学修の目的と方法

授業の概要 What message do you want to communicate?

This course builds upon the skills covered in the spring semester presentation course and trains you to present clearly and confidently in English. We will review the basics of presentation in the early weeks of the semester. After that, we will practice new skills and new presentation styles. By the end of the course, you can expect to be a more effective communicator.

*If you are a motivated student who makes a strong effort, you can succeed in this course even if you have never taken a presentation course before.
学修の目的 This main goal of the course is to enable you to communicate your message effectively in academic and non-academic presentations.

In order to reach this goal, you will develop presentation skills connected with the four core messages below:
Story message -- content and structure; value of the presentation to the audience
Verbal message -- pronunciation, volume, inflection, and fluency
Physical message -- eye contact, gestures, facial expressions, posture, and body positioning
Visual message -- creating and using visual aids

Through the process of preparing your presentations, you will gain experience at researching a topic, supporting ideas with data and examples, and giving credit to sources.
学修の到達目標 By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate your message more effectively.

You can expect to have:
(1) a clear mental image of what an effective presentation looks like,
(2) an understanding of the elements which lead to a successful a presentation,
(3) the ability to use those elements in your own presentations,
(4) experience with practice techniques which will prepare you for the stage,
(5) increased skill and confidence when speaking in front of an audience,
(6) familiarity with a variety of presentation styles.

You should be able to make a strong impression on your audience and communicate your message in a way that people will understand and remember.
