授業の概要 | This course provides a rigorous analysis of concepts involved in the study of cognitive linguistics, particularly cognitive semantics and Cognitive Grammar. Key topics such as image schemas, conceptual structure, frame semantics, metaphor, metonomy, and construction grammar will be covered. |

学修の目的 | Topics for this course will primarily cover concepts in cognitive semantics and Cognitive Grammar. This course will give students a solid introduction to cognitive linguistics, a firm grasp of the basic theories underlining the approach, an understanding how to apply basic cognitive linguistic concepts in linguistic analysis, and an understanding of its methodologies. |
学修の到達目標 | Students will learn how to analyze and think about language from a cognitive linguistic perspective, and how to practically apply this to their own language learning. |

事前・事後学修の内容 | Before each class, it is assumed that students will have read the relevant portions in the textbook. In addition to this, students will be responsible for other handouts and supplementary material introduced by the instructor in class. Five quizzes, as well as some homework assignments, will make up the bulk of assessment for this course. The reading assignments will take students approximately 1 hour of study each week. |
