授業の概要 | Advanced English conversation A is a discussion based course, and aims to develop students' English proficiency by focusing on practical English skills that will enable them to communicate their needs, views and ideas. Topics will include personal and social issues such as: life goals, family ties, jobs, equal rights, education and other situational conversations. |
---|---|
学修の目的 | The first semester will begin with a proficiency check to assess students’ abilities and needs. Topics for discussion will be chosen from the textbook Impact Issues 1. Each lesson will start by building from warm-up topics and then into the main topic, which is taken from a new unit each week. This course will also include 2 audio recordings per semester for self-analysis and assessment. Most of class time will focus on conversation, although other activities, such as reading and listening activities, will be used to build up to a final conversation. |
学修の到達目標 | The goal is for students to: • Be able to think deeply, weigh different sides of an issue, and reflect on personal experience • Improve discussion skills through sharing opinions and other conversation strategies • Increase comprehension ability through reading and listening in meaningful focused activities • Be exposed to, and understand, a wide range of speaking styles and varieties of international English • Gain communicative confidence and increase motivation for using English |

事前・事後学修の内容 | For homework and review, students will be expected to complete a small reading passage, answer the associated comprehension questions, and study a vocabulary list related to the topic. They will also be expected to consider their opinions on a series of questions related to the topic, and complete selected activities that we will be discussing in class. This will take students approximately 45 minutes of study each week. Also, two times during the semester, students will have an additional piece of homework related to their audio recording. This should take them an additional 1 hour to complete. |
