学修の目的と方法

授業の概要 This course is designed to prepare students for a variety of formal presentations. Topics will include cultural conventions and speech, perceptions of others, verbal and nonverbal messages and techniques of oral presentation and persuasion. Students will learn how to research, outline, highlight and review while delivering a presentation in public.

Required preparation and review for the class:
1) Research the topic of your speech. Prepare and submit a preparation form ( 30 minutes )
2) Review by practicing your speech before delivery in class. ( 15 minutes )
学修の目的 During the first 3 classes, students will learn the basics of making a good presentation. Examples of bad presentations will be discussed. Then each student will make a 12-minute presentation on a topic of their choice. Other students will evaluate the student who made the presentation. Lastly there will be group evaluation of each presentation. Students are required to use power-point slides or visual aids such as photos, charts, pictures, etc during the speech.
学修の到達目標 After taking this class, students will have understood the basic speech format. They will gain confidence to plan and deliver a short speech using the power point media. They will also learn through peer-review how to give an effective speech to inform or demonstrate.
