学習の目的と方法

授業の概要	Students will read recent publications (essentially academic publications) and write reviews of those readings under the guidance of the instructor. In addition to reading comprehension, summaries, and related writing tasks, the class will also include group learning cultivated in the Startup Seminar from the spring semester. Students will fill in review sheets on assigned readings and carry out peer review of each other's review sheets through discussion. 教員のファシリテーションの下、半期で新書(基本的に論説文)を読んで、書評を書く。文章の読解、要約、作成に関する解説に加え、スタートアップセミナーで培ったグループ学習も取り入れる。学生は読書シートを作成しつつ新書を読み、読書シートに基づく討論や書評のピアレヴューをグループで行う。
学習の目的	Students will improve their abilities in reading and writing through reading publications in English, writing in English, gathering information, and reviews of information founded on individual and self-motivated study. Students will also acquire abilities in intellectual discussion coupled with the synthesis of the listening and speaking abilities developed in the spring semester startup seminar. 英語で文献を読むこと、英語で文章を作成することは、情報収集、情報発言の一般的な形態、自律的・能動的学習力の基盤となる「読む」「書く」能力を育成する事を目的とする。前期のスタートアップセミナーで培った「聞く」「話す」能力と統合し、知的コミュニケーション力の獲得を目指す。
学習の到達目標	･Upon completing a reading in English, you will be able to convey the content and nature of that reading to others using English. ･You will also learn to discuss your own opinions and give commentary on your summaries, as well as write reviews of publications, all using the English language. ･Through group work and peer reviews, you will learn not only how to critique the writing of others, but also how to utilize others' critiques of your writing to improve your work ･新書を読み、その要旨を文書化して読み手に伝えることができる。 ･要旨に自分の見解を根拠と付加し、書評として纏めることができる。 ･グループ学習やピアレビューを通して、他者の文章を論評すると同時に、他者からの批評を受けて自分の文章を改善する方法を学び、それを実践することができる。

教科書	Recently published readings will be selected either from a list of suggested readings (students can also suggest readings) by the instructor, or by some other method such as biblio-battle. However, recent publications that are manuals (such as how-to instructions, etc.) will not be considered appropriate. We will also make use of the Liberal Arts Workshop Workbook. Details of both will be explained in class. 教材として、新書と『教養ワークショップ　ワークシート集』を用いる。詳細は授業で伝える。
参考書	To be introduced in class, as appropriate. 適宜、紹介する。
成績評価方法と基準	・Class participation and submission of assignments (reading notes, peer evaluations, etc.): 60% ・Content and quality of contribution to group activities and submitted assignments: 40% ・However, no credit will be given for copying, plagiarism, or theft. 授業への参加と課題（読書シート・書評など）の提出60％、グループ学習への貢献度と提出物の内容など40％を総合的に評価する。

事前・事後学修の内容	Each student will record the readings they read on the reading sheet. Each session, homework due the following session will be assigned. All work must be completed in English. 各自が新書を読む際には、読書シートを記載する。毎回、次回授業に向けての課題を指定する。全ての提出物は英語で書くこと。
