TAの情報 |
授業の概要 | This course provides an introductory analysis of concepts involved in the study of word-formation (morphology), and will primarily focus on inflection, inflectional systems, and the interface between morphology and phonology, syntax, and semantics. Most examples will be drawn heavily from Indo-European languages, particularly English, although examples from many non-Indo-European Languages will be used as well. |
---|---|
学習の目的 | Topics for this course will include an in-depth study of inflectional systems and the interaction of morphology with other linguistic fields of inquiry, namely, phonology, syntax, and semantics. This course will give students a solid introduction to various aspects of linguistic morphology, and a firm grasp of the ways languages can, and do, differ in word formation. |
学習の到達目標 | Students will learn how to analyze morphological systems of various languages, even those of which they have not studied previously, and how to practically apply this to their own language learning. Students will also learn how word formation differs cross-linguistically. |

事前・事後学修の内容 | Before each class, it is assumed that students will have read the relevant portions in the textbook. In addition to this, students will be responsible for other handouts and supplementary material introduced by the instructor in class. Four quizzes, as well as a student presentation, will make up the bulk of assessment for this course. There will be no graded homework. However, the reading assignments will take students approximately 1 hour of study each week. Students will also be required to give a presentation on a topic of their choice in lieu of a final examination. |
