学修の目的と方法

授業の概要 The 5-day Intensive Reading and Discussion Course is designed to help students improve their English, specifically reading, speaking and discussion skills, pronunciation and vocabulary, in a supportive and encouraging environment.

We will use a range of up-to-date materials including: authentic and adapted reading texts, videos, songs, slides, and handouts. We will also use quizzes, debates, games, and comprehension questions to gauge understanding. There will be no expectation of homework, but additional extension materials will be made available to students if they are especially interested in the topics studied.

Lessons will be task oriented and students will be expected to solve problems, find and exchange information, take part in debates, poster presentations and discussions. A range of interactions is expected, for example whole group, small group, pair work and individual contribution.

All lessons will be themed to help recycle and reuse lexis and language structures. Topics may include for example: Houses and architecture, food and eating, etiquette, travel and tourism, natural history, landscape, plants and animals.

Through engagement with the above, we will learn more about British life and culture, for example: the architecture of the UK and how people live, British manners and etiquette, British food, pet ownership in the UK and English idioms. This part of the programme should give you a better and more nuanced understanding of Britain and the British.

Students will also be assessed on their attendance, participation and willingness to contribute to and work within different peer groups.
