学習の目的と方法

授業の概要 According to Brundtland Report (1987), Sustainable Development (SD) is defined as development meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In 2015, the UN formulated more specific sustainable development goals (SDGs).The most critical resources for survival of future generations depend on climate stability and biodiversity. We must respect nature and limit our economic activity. However, many people are still far from being able to meet their basic needs, especially in developing countries. SD addresses issues of improving the lifestyles of the poor without overburdening our ecosystems? It is a challenge to change individual lifestyles in developed countries, their government policies that secure social justice and social business. This lecture provides a basic understanding of these challenges, introduces strategies and instruments for sustainable development.
学習の目的 1) To understand the basic concept of Sustainable Development (SD), the environmental, social and economic dimensions.
2) To know the history of the SD concept.
3) To be able to discuss the conflicts involved in the SD concept on a global scale.
4) To be familiar with efficiency and sufficiency concepts of SD.
5) To be able to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of instruments for SD.
6) To understand the SD challenge for companies, their responsibilities and potentials for action.
学習の到達目標 After taking this class, students would have researched current trends in the field of Sustainable Development in the world and grasp the direction it is headed. They will understand how our current judgments and actions can affect the future generations.
